Travel Thursday.

Acapulco, Mexico

I don't spend too much time on Facebook, but I happened to click on over there yesterday.....HUGE mistake. I was cruelly reminded that this was Spring Break week for most colleges including my Alma Mater. Instead of bonging tequila poppers, sustaining only on quesadillas and raging to techno, I'm sitting at work....crying tears that contain no alcohol content. My liver thanks me but my mind is revolting. So on this Travel Thursday I would head back to the scene of the sickest spring break ever....*Acapulco, Mexico.

*(Senior year, not Sophomore year....La Palapa is a shithole.)

Grapple With It.

Look at this picture and tell me what you see. You are probably thinking, I see an apple. You go girl, way to eat healthy and keep the doctor away. While I do deserve mad props for my healthy choices, this is no ordinary apple.....in fact, it's a Grapple. It's really rare that you find a fruit or veggie that piques your interest, but the Grapple has done just that. Here is how I would best describe this fantastic fruit. It's an apple but it smells of and tastes like grapes. 50% perplexing, 100% delicious. Truly an outstanding combination. I'm actually really excited to try one in a morning smoothie....recipe to follow. If interested, and trust me, you should be....You can find Grapples at local supermarkets such as Whole Foods and Dierbergs.

Justify My Love?

Can one ever really rationalize spending 400 bones on a pair of shoes? Even if they are the ultimate Renisance Man of footwear? I mean look at these stunners.....they are a hybrid of casual and modern....they can be worn with dresses, jeans, work pants....the list goes on.

But I really dont see how I can justify my love for these soles,...it seems certifiable. If any poor passerby happened to spill on or scuff my prized possessions, I would probably go Chuck Norris on their ass.

So for now I'll just sigh and say helllloooo lovvverrr (ala the original shoe whore herself ,Carrie Bradshaw).

Broken Record.

I love starting my morning off with music. There is no better way to ensure that you land firmly on the right side of the bed in the morning....put your I-pod on shuffle while you get ready. Positive vibes tend to follow. This morning I kept venturing back to Neon Trees- Animal. Great song, perfect for your morning jolt.

Their first LP- Habits was just released last week, and it doesn't disappoint. Other notables include,'1983' and 'Love and Affection'

Love Bug.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Easy Eco.

Here's an easy way to save trees. Next time you head to the ATM, decline your receipt. If everyone in the good ol USA refused their receipts for one year....a roll of paper 2 billion feet long would be saved. In perspective, that amount could circle the earth 15 times! Think about that amount if you decline receipts at Starbucks, gas stations, etc. The impact could be huge!

Travel Thursday.

Dublin, Ireland

It's St. Patrick's Day weekend, why would you want to be anywhere but Dublin. A sea of green, tons of Guinness and lovely people. Plus, a National Leprechaun Museum just opened there....sounds super fun and creepy.

A-Trilli.

I loathe Ohio State. Seriously.
I hate that they call their school THE Ohio State University.
I hate their mascot.....WTF is a Buckeye exactly, and why should I be intimidated by it?
I hate that they always beat my beloved Illini in football, save in 07 when we beat the then No. 1 team AT HOME....IN THE HORSESHOE (yes I know it was 3 years ago but let a sister rejoice).

I may detest OSU, but I love Mark Titus.

Head over to his blog, Club Trillion. Don't be surprised if you too fall in love. His site has an almost cult like following, and sometimes I'm almost- and I mean almost (I'm no Judas)- want to purchase a Club Tril tee and hope for Titus to get some floor time.

Trill gives a hilarious and introspective look into Big Ten basketball.....a truly great resource for any fan.

Can't Get Enough.

Modern Family is where its at. This mocumentary is the most hilarious show to hit the block since The Office. Among the one liners and sarcasm lies a sweet message about loving, accepting and appreciating one's family. Last week's episode was centered around facing one's fears....and it was a real doozie. Observe and obsess.

Toucan-can.

The Midwest has been getting glimpses of the sun and the warm weather to come. But instead of having Spring-fever, I have eclipsed an entire season and have started dreaming about summer (and the corresponding wardrobe of course). This skirt epitomizes everything that I associate with warm weather.....it actually reminds me of a toucan, and a can-can dancer all in one. It's quite a combination, one I've deemed both odd, and utterly perfect.

These colors and tiered layers just scream for tan gams and a fruity cocktail!

Wonder-ful.

As a child, Alice in Wonderland was always one of my favorite tales. I always wondered what it would be like to fall down the rabbit hole, and what type of fantasy world I would find. I would inevitably get into trouble because I would eat/drink everything labeled as such, but isn't that part of the fun? Tim Burton's take on this classic is sure to be as trippy as Lewis Carroll's original tome, if not more so....which only heightens the likelihood that I will see the film asap. It seems I'm not the only one who has caught Alice-fever.....several big name companies have come out with Wonderland inspired lines.

Now, if you'll excuse me...I'm late for a very important date.

Rob a Jewerly Store.

Yesterday I caught Behind the Music featuring Lil Wayne. I love Wayne but really don't know much about him outside the interview he did with 'Miss Katie' Couric pre-Grammies.....and all we really got established there was that he loved weed and was a self-proclaimed 'gangsta' (Both 2 totally original declarations from a rapper). Anyhow, the story of his life was interesting enough, but what really got me about Wayne was his grill. That man has an estimated $125,000 worth of diamonds in his mouth. And he cares for his mouth the way some of us would a household pet. Says Wayne: "I brush them after dinner, after lunch - with Colgate." Only the best to scrape KFC of yo diamonds.

Anyways, I got to thinking....what would it feel like to have a mouth full of diamonds? Would they feel heavy? Do they scrape the insides of your lips, causing pain? Do you smile an exorbitant amount in order to show of yo disco ball? Do you insure your smile? So many questions, so few answers. Many rappers have a smile on da rocks, but I have to give it to Wayne...he really pulls it off.

Rapunzel.

I am loving the texturized side braid that recently sashayed down the runways of Fashion Week. Unlike other looks, this trend can totally translate to the streets. Just throw your hair in a side braid, muss the top, and bene! The perfect plait.

Blake Lively changes it up a bit with a Rapunzel-like take on the braided ponytail. It reminds me of how my friends styled their hair for volleyball matches in high school...If I knew then that this was the style of the future, I would have dropped the pre-wrap and high pony combo REAL fast.
