Cuban Cuisine.
So being in Miami, naturally we wanted to try some Cuban food. Well we heard from several sources that Gloria Estafan's restaurant Larios was the place to be. Ambiance gets an A+ here. A live DJ, salsa dancing and bright colors really set the tone. After being sat at a long table decorated simply with candles and daisies, we were ready to dig in. Most of us weren't well versed in Cuban food, so our friend Tara took the reigns and helped us to eat as the Cubans would. We started out with Tostones, which are fried Plantains served with a butter garlic sauce. These were so unique and delicious. For those of you who don't know, a plantain is in the banana family.....super scrumptious. Continuing on the Cuban food train, Tara and I split the dish featured above....it was essentially Paella, served with a side of rice with sweeter fried plantains on the side. This dish was BEYOND AMAZING. The seafood was so fresh, the flavors were explosive, and it was very filling.
The only downside of Larios? The service was TERRRRRIBLE. Our waiter forgot drink orders, mixed up entrees....the works. But whatever, it just gave us more time to enjoy their mojito infusions. If you are ever in MIA and have about 3 hours at your disposial, Larios is a must.
